SPOT SHOT® PARTNERS WITH SONY STUDIOS TO PROMOTE 'CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS'

September 8, 2009

Sony Pictures Animation’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, storming into theaters September 18, 2009, represents the ultimate in food fun and mayhem. At the film’s September 12 premiere in Los Angeles, celebrity guests will have the chance to join in the fun with some food-flinging fun of their own as Spot Shot , a leading carpet stain remover and odor eliminator, will participate in the promotion of the animated family film.

Through its partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, Spot Shot’s aerosol and non-toxic trigger products will be integrated into several areas of the movie’s promotion, including its premiere, theatrical release, and launch to DVD. The premiere will feature a Spot Shot/Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs food toss game benefiting Feeding America – the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, which provides food assistance to more than 25 million people facing hunger in the United States. Using soft-play food toys, celebrity guests stopping by the red-carpet booth will toss the faux food onto color-coded targets representing various dollar amounts to be donated to Feeding America. The Spot Shot Cleanup Crew, uniformed in white Spot Shot lab coats, will be on hand to take care of any “messes.” The Spot Shot/Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs game will be also on-site for several screenings to raise additional funds for the charity during the week of Sept. 14.

Spot Shot will also take part in Sony’s promotional efforts around “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs” regional screenings in Charlotte, Northern New Jersey and Tampa. Radio promotions in each market, set to take place in early September, will provide consumers with the opportunity to win passes to a private screening, a grand prize $1,500 American Express gift card to be used for grocery shopping, as well as a year’s supply of Spot Shot products to clean up any food-related messes.

Providing additional support for the theatrical release, consumers who purchase any Spot Shot product beginning Sept. 13, 2009 are eligible to receive one free movie ticket to see Cloudy with a Chance Of Meatballs. Spot Shot will also help with the promotion of the movie’s release to DVD, providing consumers with a free bottle of Spot Shot when they purchase Cloudy with a Chance Of Meatballs on DVD. DVDs purchased through major retailers will also include a $1 off coupon for a future Spot Shot purchase.

“Tough on carpet stains and safe around children and pets, Spot Shot has long been a staple in homes where kids frequently create major food messes on carpeted areas,” said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of U.S. marketing for the WD-40 Company, makers of Spot Shot. “Partnering with Sony Studios to promote ‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs,’ which is sure to be a hit with parents and kids, is a great opportunity for us.”

In 2009, Columbia Pictures' and Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will be the most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children's book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain. The film is directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. The screenplay is by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller based on the book by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett. Pam Marsden is the producer.
